International Partners and Affiliations

Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA)

The Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives is a global network focused on ending waste incineration and advancing zero waste systems. It works with communities, governments, and civil society groups to promote waste reduction, segregation, composting, and recycling. GAIA provides research, technical support, and policy advocacy to shift waste management away from burning and toward circular economy solutions. Its work addresses environmental protection, public health, and climate impacts. Through global collaboration, GAIA supports practical, community driven approaches that reduce pollution, conserve resources, and create more sustainable and inclusive waste systems.

Civil Society Parliamentary Network (CSPN)

The Civil Society Parliamentary Network (CSPN) is an initiative by Westminster Foundation for Democracy Maldives to strengthen engagement between civil society and parliament. It provides a structured platform for dialogue, enabling organisations to present policy ideas and contribute to lawmaking processes. CSPN supports transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance by connecting civil society with parliamentary committees and legislators. It offers technical support and capacity building to improve participation. The network continues to grow, with increasing membership and stronger alignment with legislative priorities, aiming to create sustained collaboration and improve the quality of democratic decision making.

Break Free From Plastic (BFP)

Break Free From Plastic is a global movement working to stop plastic pollution at its source. It brings together organisations and individuals to push for reductions in single use plastics and stronger accountability from corporations. The movement supports campaigns, policy advocacy, and community action to drive systemic change. Activities include brand audits, public awareness efforts, and promoting reuse systems. BFFP focuses on reducing plastic production, improving waste systems, and advancing sustainable alternatives. It connects local actions with global advocacy to influence policies and corporate practices that reduce plastic pollution and protect ecosystems and communities.

Coalition for Open Governance (COG)

The Coalition for Open Governance is a network of human rights advocates and organisations working to strengthen democracy and transparency in the Maldives. It promotes collective engagement, advocacy, and capacity building to improve governance and human rights outcomes. The coalition creates space for civil society to influence policy and decision making processes. It includes core and affiliate members who contribute to agenda setting, advocacy actions, and implementation. Membership is voluntary and collaborative. Zero Waste Maldives is a founding member. COG aims to build stronger institutions, increase accountability, and support greater public participation in democratic processes.
